Rolls-Royce confirmed that the official name of its much-anticipated luxurious SUV will be called Cullinan. During its development, the BMW-subsidiary has been labelling its upcoming vehicle as "Project Cullinan" which it named after a 3,106-carat diamond found in South Africa.

According to Rolls Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös, the name "Cullinan" is a perfect fit for the vehicle since it has been exposed to different weather conditions and sceneries during its development stage. The Rolls-Royce Cullinan have been to the deserts of Africa and Middle East, the snows of the Artic Circle, the grass of Scottish Highlands, and the canyons of North America, Fortune reported.

Müller-Ötvös further explained that the rigorous processes Cullinan went through during its development stage were among the inspirations of their company building the luxurious vehicle. Cullinan is the second car built by Rolls-Royce under its vision of producing "architecture of luxury" using aluminum spaceframe, according to Forbes.

Meanwhile, it was reported earlier that regular customers of Rolls-Royce will get a chance to see the debut of Cullinan privately. It is expected that the new luxury car will be available toward the end of 2018. According to CTV News, Rolls-Royce is expecting that Cullinan will increase the sales of the company, reaching the level of 5,000 units sold per year. It was a record year for Rolls-Royce when it reached the 4,000 mark in 2016. However, it dropped to 3,362 units sold in 2017.

Project Cullinan first started in 2015 when Rolls-Royce announced its plan in developing a new SUV. As for its specifications, Motor Authority is predicting that the Cullinan will carry a 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V-12 that first appeared in Phantom VIII. The Cullinan could also produce a maximum horsepower of 563 and 664 pound-feet of torque.

As of this moment, there is no final exterior design for the much-anticipated SUV. Watch out for more updates about the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
