WWE 2K16 release news: Roman Reigns almost made the cover

Roman Reigns could be lording it over the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) right now if only he were good behind the microphone. Had that been the case, he would be the hands down choice to be on the cover of the upcoming "WWE 2K16" game.

But as everyone knows, Reigns was sent back crashing to the barracks, needing to work on his talent behind the microphone and his showmanship overall.

There is no question that the former Shield member has shown tremendous ring skills but the fact remains — to be a WWE star, you need a mix of both athleticism and publicity.

Hence, the WWE opted to go with Steve Austin instead, considering "WWE 2K16" is a major project and is something that will hopefully appease WWE fans and gamers who were not shy to voice out their disappointment with "WWE 2K15."

Recall that many were disappointed with "WWE 2K15" for its lack of in-game features, its limited storylines, and the fact that not all wrestlers were given proper exposure.

All those seem to have been addressed though, led no less by 120 playable characters that do not include retro-themed wrestlers as prior game installments. That as well as more realistic and improved game strategies await gamers once 2K Sports officially launches the game this coming October.

As for Reigns, work continues. After drawing a lot of criticism since the 2015 Royal Rumble, it has been touch and go for Reigns. He has been in and out of the WWE title picture but is now currently in a storyline feud with Bray Wyatt.

Along with Dean Ambrose, the two buddies now find themselves taking on the new Wyatt Family. First joining Bray was Luke Harper. After WWE SummerSlam, which saw the Wyatts falling yet again, a third member in Braun Strowman was introduced.

Could Reigns and Ambrose be getting help soon? Do they need one more member to even the odds against the Wyatts?
