Rose Bowl live stream free 2014: Watch online Michigan State vs Stanford [ESPN start time, preview]

The Rose Bowl 2014 takes place on New Year's Day between Michigan State and Stanford in what will be a fiercely contested game to see in the new year.

Michigan State will be hoping to continue their good form against the PAC 12 champs and #5 ranked Stanford, but it will not be an easy contest. The game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on ESPN. Alternatively the game can be watched online through live stream – free for subscribers to the ESPN network – via the link provided below.

This year will be the 100th annual Rose Bowl game, and it should be a fantastic contest this season. The last time Michigan State played in the Rose Bowl was way back in 1988, when they defeated USC 20-17 in a dramatic and close game.

Stanford, however, played in the Rose Bowl just 12 months ago, and defeated the Wisconsin Badgers – one of Michigan State's Big Ten rivals.

They will be desperate to win this game to put some tough times this season behind them. Losses to USC and Utah basically saw their hopes of a national championship go up in smoke. However, outside the title game, the Rose Bowl is the main event, and they will be geared up to win this game.

Stanford coach Shaw has said ahead of the game: "I don't live with regrets. I know there's going to be bumps in the road and a whole bunch of games where they're on the edge of a knife."

Stanford guard David Yankey also has said, "You can look back, and look at the what ifs, but you can't change the past. That's why people love college football. A game in August and September can change your season."
