American actress Roseanne Barr made it known during a press conference that her character in the upcoming revival of ABC's "Roseanne" will be a supporter of United States President Donald Trump. Barr's character's political stance is very much identical with her own personal ideologies. 

Barr shared the information last Monday, Jan. 8, during the Television Critics Association (TCA) Winter Press Tour. Barr pointed out that her intention for the show was to always portray a believable image of a contemporary American family, and she aims to do the same for the upcoming revival. Given that the show's characters are made up of mostly working-class citizens, it would make sense that a good number of them would be Trump supporters. 

On top of that, Barr aims to tackle the issue of families' perception on voting, in that a difference of opinion within a particular household drives a wedge between family members. This topic is certainly relevant, especially during the elections, and Barr described the existence of the issue as "not American." Additionally, Barr suggested that half of Americans elected Trump into office, and it is safe to assume that this fact will be present on the show as well. 

Naturally, during the press event's question and answer portion, Barr was asked by attendees of the event as to why she voted for Trump. She then explained that it was time to "try something different," and personally felt that choosing Trump reflected her stance. However, she also admitted that President Trump is prone to making controversial statements, and affirms that there are a good number of points that she is not in favor of.  

One of the cast members, Sara Gilbert, who plays Darlene, recognizes that the country is through a period of division -- wherein there are those who are pro-Trump and anti-Trump. She stated that "Roseanne" could be a healthy platform in which to create some social commentary in the "context of family."  

"Roseanne" will premiere on March 27 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
