Royal Family news: Is marriage between Kate Middleton's uncle and his wife over?
Having plead guilty to a charge of assault by beating, speculations suggest that the marriage between the Duchess of Cambridge's uncle, multi-millionaire Gary Goldsmith, 52, and his wife Julie-Ann Goldsmith, 47, is over. Gary was accused of striking his wife using a left hook which allegedly knocked her out and left her unconscious for about 15 seconds after a night of drinking at a charity auction at a private member's club in London on October of this year.
Chief magistrate Emma Arbuthnot was told that Julie-Ann is now seeking to accomplish a restraining order against Gary after a series of incidents between the couple. She added that there are alcohol issues involved and that she is looking to protect Julie-Ann from Gary.
The taxi driver who drove them home before the incident, Daniel Shepherd, 28, disclosed that throughout their trip home, the couple was allegedly arguing about Gary's cocaine use during the auction with businessmen. Shepherd also revealed that both parties were drunk when the incident took place, Prosecutor Kate Shilton told Westminster magistrates. The driver also described how Julie-Ann supposedly slapped Gary to the side of the face, which the latter responded with what Shepherd described as a left hook.
Gary has admitted to the assault by beating and has been bailed out of prison. He has also been order not to go near Julie-Ann's new address.
Arbuthnot also said that the trust in the relationship between the couple has been breached and that Julie-Ann does not consider it as a complete one-off. Gary who is estimated to be worth about £30 million refused to answer whether their marriage could survive or not after he left the court. Julie-Ann also refused to comment on the issue when asked yesterday, as per The Sun. Julie-Ann was found guilty of siphoning £244,749 from a luxury car firm she used to work in, and was convicted in 1996.
