Royals attend Christmas Day service without Prince Philip

The royal family went for their traditional Christmas Day service at Sandringham today without Prince Philip.

The Duke of Edinburgh had to spend a second night in hospital after treatment for a blocked coronary artery.

Members of the public gave the Queen bunches of flowers after the service and offered their best wishes for the Duke of Edinburgh.

The service was also attended by new additions to the royal family, Kate Middleton, who married Prince William in April, and Mike Tindall, who wed the Queen’s granddaughter Zara Phillips in July.

Following the church service, members of the royal family were due to visit Prince Philip in hospital.

He said to be in “good spirits”.
