The Salvation Army has been offering extensive material aid to evacuees in flood-devastated states across Malaysia, but the Christian organisation has also been quick to reveal that words of comfort have often been received just as warmly.

The Salvation Army has been providing aid to flood evacuees in Johor and Malacca since the floods struck the states last December.

The Salvation Army has also set aside an Emergency Relief Fund of more than £20,000 which has been used to provide many basic necessities to the evacuees: blankets and beddings, clothing, towels, toiletries, footwear, as well as food stuff.

The aid team had previously visited and helped other flood-stricken towns in Muar and Segamat, which are located in Johor, as well as the Malacca town area. Another team based in Kota Kinabalu has also responded to the flood victims in Sabah.

In Malacca alone, more than about 600 food parcels have been distributed out to families, and elsewhere in Sabah, more than 515 families have received basic food supplies - rice, canned food and noodles.

The Salvation Army has also offered some funding for basic furniture replacements for low-income families in Malacca, such as chairs, table and cupboards.

Since the flood, conditions in several states have improved and The Salvation Army is now planning on more cleaning operations in the affected states.

Volunteer teams from The Salvation Army have also extended their help to the flood victims in the Kluang and Batu Pahat areas on 17 January 2007.
