Samsung ATIV Book 9 Pro with 4K display announced - what to expect

BusinessWire Press Release

Tech giant Samsung has unveiled a new Windows 10 lineup with the announcement of its new ATIV Book 9 Pro.

The Book 9 Pro is part of Samsung's new Windows 10-centered ATIV laptops. However, most noted for the Pro version is that it will be the first company workstation with a 4K display. The ATIV Book 9 Pro has a 15.6-inch touchscreen display with 3840 x 2160 resolution.

Meanwhile, as a recent addition to the Samsung lineup, the ATIV Book 9 Pro also features cutting-edge specs under its hood. It has a sixth-gen Intel Core i7 processor, 8 GB of RAM, and an includes Nvidia GeForce 950M graphics card. In addition, the laptop carries at least 256 GB of SSD storage. Meanwhile, battery life is rated up to 6.5 hours, which seems a little short, but is adequate considering the mobile workstation has 4K display.

According to The Verge, the new ATIV Book 9 Pro will retail for $1,599.

Aside from the ATIV Book 9 Pro, ZDNet reports that Samsung has also unveiled a 2-in-1, the ATIV Book 9 Spin, with a display that rotates 360 degrees, converting the laptop into a usable tablet.

In terms of specs, the hybrid Book 9 Spin has almost the same RAM and storage options as the Book 9 Pro. However, it runs on a slower 2.5 GHz i7 Core processor, and instead of Nvidia graphics, it has an integrated Intel HD Graphics processor. In addition, instead of a large, 4K display, the Book 9 Spin has a smaller, 13.3-inch QHD+ display. This gives the 2-in-1 a 3200 x 1800 resolution.

The ATIV Book 9 Spin will retail for around $1,400. There is no global release date yet, but in the U.S., both devices will be available as exclusive offerings from Samsung's website and giant retailer Best Buy.
