Samsung is working on a whole host of new mobile products for 2016 including a powerful flagship in the making, the Samsung Galaxy S7. But it looks like the South Korea-based tech firm also intends to update some of its midrange line-ups too.

Rumor mills have been chomping info pointing to the existence of so-called 2016 versions of the Samsung Galaxy A3 and the Samsung Galaxy A5. Now, the handsets starred in a set leaked live images, showing off what Samsung decided to keep and change.

First, the naming scheme is worth noting. The handsets were given the subtitle "2016 edition," which suggests that these devices will be released this year, probably in time for the Christmas season. However, it remains unclear when exactly the phones will show up.

On the other hand, the photos reveal that the pair of handsets will stick with the metal frames and their respective screen sizes – 4.5 inches for Galaxy A3 and 5-inches for Galaxy A5 -- but part of the upgrade is the glass back, which GSM Arena says will most likely be Gorilla Glass.

As for the specs sheet, it is being reported that the Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016 Edition) will be fitted out with an Exynos 7580 processor with 1.5 GB RAM to boot. It has 16 GB storage space on board, which should give room for photos and selfies taken on its 13-MP rear camera and 5-MP front shooter.

Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016 Edition), the bigger of the two, is expected to be powered by a 1.6-Ghz Exynos 7 processor and 2 GB RAM. It also has 16 GB of space to offer. Imaging department is made of a 12-MP primary camera with LED flash and a 4.7-MP selfie snapper.

Noticeably missing from the leaked photos is the 2016 edition of the Samsung Galaxy A7, which is believed to also be in Samsung's test beds.
