Samsung Galaxy J8 Plus 2018 release date & specs rumors: Geekbench listing shows Snapdragon 625 chip, Android 8.0 Oreo

According to the latest reports, Samsung is planning to expand its current Galaxy J series collection this year. Following the launch of its Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus flagships at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018, it is expected that the South Korean tech giant would introduce the new Galaxy J8 in the coming weeks. Per the latest benchmark listing, Samsung could also unveil a Galaxy J8 Plus variant packed with Qualcomm Snapdragon 645 chipset.

So far, the leaks suggest that Samsung will showcase at least two Galaxy J8 models in 2018. Earlier reports point to the existence of a regular J8 smartphone, while the latest ones show that a Galaxy J8 Plus is coming up as well. The Geekbench listing for the suspected J8 Plus model, with model number SM-J805G, shows that its specs are slightly hinged higher than the J8.

The Samsung Galaxy J8 Plus is revealed to have Qualcomm's mid-range mobile processor, the Snapdragon 645. Although, an older leak for the model suggests that the J8 Plus will have the Exynos 7870 chip instead. It is worth nothing that the handset using the Exynos processor has the model number SM-J800FN, which could mean that there are different variants of the smartphone model.

The Samsung Galaxy J8 Plus is also listed to have 4GB of RAM, which is higher than the previous model's 3GB of RAM. The octa-core Cortex-A53 processor used in the J8 Plus model has 1.8GHz clock speed, which is better than the regular J8 phone's 1.6GHz. In spite of this, the difference in performance between these two devices is considered negligible.

The Geekbench listing does not say too much regarding the other features of the Samsung Galaxy J8 Plus, like its camera hardware description. It appears that the J8 Plus will run the latest Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, based on earlier rumors. Regarding the discrepancy whether the Samsung Galaxy J8 Plus would use a Snapdragon or Exynos processor, it is possible that there will be a separate Snapdragon-powered handset to be distributed in North America. On the other hand, the Exynos variant of J8 Plus will be available in the Asian market.
