Samsung Galaxy Note 6 release date, specs rumors: launching August? Firmware being developed

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Will its follow-up raise the bar like it did?Reuters

Rumors have suggested that the next Galaxy Note will be launched as early as August. There may be truth to the rumors as Samsung is reportedly already in the final stages of developing the firmware build for the Galaxy Note 6.

SamMobile reports that the development of the starting firmware build for the Galaxy Note 6 is already underway, with the build having a version file of N930FXXU0APE1. The industry follower notes that this firmware version is just the beginning, and the final build may be different particularly for the retail versions of the Galaxy Note 6.

A firmware version build means that the device is already on its final phases of development, particularly with the design and internals. This means that the Galaxy Note 6 is ready to be revealed. Samsung has yet to finalize details on its announcement, but a mid-2016 launch, particularly in August, is most likely. In terms of schedule, an August reveal for a new Galaxy Note is plausible, given that the current-gen iteration, the Galaxy Note 5, made its appearance in August last year.

Meanwhile, Samsung has yet to provide the confirmed specs sheet for the Galaxy Note 6. Rumors have suggested that as a flagship, the Galaxy Note 6 is expected to carry a new Snapdragon processor, and may even get an idea from the Galaxy S7 lineup, coming out with an Exynos chipset version in some regions. This means that the Galaxy Note 6 will have a Snapdragon 820 SoC at the very least, or the rumored Snapdragon 823 chipset reportedly in the works.

It has also been confirmed that the Galaxy Note 6 will get a USB Type-C port for its connectivity, so it is expected that there will be some changes in the build and design of the new iteration. Meanwhile, some observers have said that the Galaxy Note 6 will be the most powerful Samsung flagship yet, featuring 6GB of RAM.
