Given last year's fiasco with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, it is highly likely that the company will pull out all the stops in developing the phablet's successor. Judging by the leaked image that circulated on the Internet last week, the company seems to have done just exactly that.

The image, first released on SlashLeaks, shows what could be the new Galaxy Note 8, which closely resembles the Samsung Galaxy S8, along with Samsung's S-Pen. The device has no home button. Instead, it has an all-display front. It also seems to bear the EDGE display that was made popular by the Samsung Galaxy S7 EDGE.

According to rumors, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will have a 6.32-inch screen, with an AMOLED display. It seems that it will have a narrower but longer screen compared to its predecessor. It is also said to bear a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, as well as 6 GB of RAM. The phone is also said to have water and dust protection. It is also likely that the device will have 64 GB of storage, although this can be expanded using a microSD card. However, some are also saying that its internal memory is as high as 256 GB. This has been neither confirmed nor denied by the company.

Rumors are also circulating that the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will be the first Samsung handset that will bear a dual-lens camera. This was based on Samsung applying for a patent for this technology, as reported by ValueWalk. The site also said that this can be used in 3D mapping and distance measurements.

Samsung has previously committed that it will take necessary measures so that owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will not experience the exploding battery issue encountered by some who owned the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which prompted the company to pull out this device from the market.

No official release date has been announced yet. However, speculations suggest that it will be out in the market by the third quarter of 2017.
