Previously, Samsung may have inadvertently confirmed that it is continuing the Galaxy Note series despite the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco. Speculations suggest that the next flagship is already in the works, complete with assigned model numbers.

According to noted tipster and perennial leaker Evan Blass, Samsung is already conceptualizing the Galaxy Note 8 handset. Interestingly, the development seems to be on track, as the upcoming flagship already has an assigned model number, SM-N950. Although Blass has not directly connected the ongoing SM-N950 development to the Galaxy Note 8, it should be noted that the previous Galaxy Note flagships are internally codenamed as SM-N930 and SM-N920.

Meanwhile, the industry follower also let it drop that the development for Samsung's other flagship is also on track, as the South Korea-based tech maker is assembling SM-G950 and SM-G955. The SM-G series has been associated with the Galaxy S lineup, so it is likely that Blass is talking about the two supposed models of the upcoming Galaxy S8 series.

Interestingly, Samsung has skipped SM-G94, the follow-up to the Galaxy S7's SM-G930 and SM-G935 models. It may be a hint that the next Galaxy S flagship will introduce major improvements that Samsung will skip model versions.

As for the Galaxy Note 8, Samsung is silent on what fans may expect from the new flagship, since it is expected that the iteration will appear in the latter part of 2017. However, it is expected that should the Galaxy S8 forego regular screens, the next Galaxy Note may also likely be a lineup with dual-edge displays. As a full-fledged phablet, Samsung is also likely to carry over its anticipated AI-supported digital assistant to the new Galaxy Note. In addition, it is already expected that the hardware components for a successful Galaxy S8, like its battery hardware, will make it to the Galaxy Note 8's late 2017 release.
