Samsung Galaxy S5 Android Marshmallow update: Software to drop in March or April; Security update for February released

Samsung Galaxy S5 users await for Android 6.0 Marshmallow to arrive. Samsung

The Samsung Galaxy S5 will receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update by March or April, according to reports. Carriers in the U.S. are also preparing the software for public consumption.

An alleged leaked document from Samsung reveals that the company is planning to roll out the latest software from Google to its 2014 flagship next month. However, there remains no specific date as to when it will exactly take place.

At the moment, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, along with other flagship models like the Galaxy S6 and Note 4, is currently receiving the security maintenance update for the month of February. The update fine-tunes the device's software for stability and overall better performance.

Meanwhile, T-Mobile is still readying the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Samsung Galaxy S5. The carrier has announced that the software is still in the manufacturer development phase, which means it is not ready for rollout yet.

This also means that the telecommunication company will still conduct some testing before it pushes it out to its customers using the 2014 flagship to make sure that it works properly. Assuring that it functions without a flaw also prevents wide-scale issues that tend to be unmanageable.

T-Mobile seems to be the sole carrier to present its progress when it comes to the Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. This could mean that the companies are still putting the firmware in order and will release details about it soon.

For now, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is due to get Android 6.0 Marshmallow by March. For those anxious to have it, they can always check the availability of the software through the software updates panel of the device that can be accessed from the device's settings.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 was released two years ago and boasted minor improvements from its predecessors. Samsung recently introduced the newest and most powerful in the family – the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
