Samsung Galaxy S6 price, release date: $699 off-contract

Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge release date on Apr. 10.Samsung

The new Samsung Galaxy S6 is definitely coming to the United States, although Samsung has not announced the exact availability of the handset as well as its price list. However, T-Mobile may have slipped and revealed that the device will cost $699.

T-Mobile is holding a special sweepstakes that gives consumers a chance to win a brand new Samsung Galaxy S6. In raffles like this, the network has to post the estimated retail value of the giveaways. Thus, the carrier listed the retail value to be around $699. This should be the off-contract price of the handset. The sweepstakes ends on March 26.

However, this could not be the final price of Samsung's flagship smartphone. Also, the webpage did not specify which variant of the smartphone costs $699, but it is speculated that it is the cost of the base model of the handset.

This is not the first time that the price of the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge leaked. Samsung Netherlands and Samsung-centric tech blog SamMobile got hold of the alleged prices of the smartphones.

According to the aforementioned sources, the smartphones cost:

  • 32 GB Galaxy S6 – €699 ($781)
  • 64 GB Galaxy S6 — €799 ($893)
  • 128 GB Galaxy S6 — €899 ($1,004)
  • 32 GB Galaxy S6 Edge — €849 ($949)
  • 64 GB Galaxy S6 edge — €949 ($1,060)
  • 128 GB Galaxy S6 edge — €1,049 ($1,172)

The published prices are more expensive than last year's Galaxy S5. One of the main reasons for the price difference is the bump in the specs and features. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge share the same specifications: 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display, 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7 processor, 16-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and 2550 mAh battery capacity. Both smartphones run with Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box.
