Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus vs Sony Xperia Z5 Premium comparison: latest high-end phablets

The battle of the large-screened smartphones continues as a new line of flagship products were released by Samsung and Sony. 

Announced less than a month apart, the new Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium both vowed to give their other phablet competitors a run for their money. But which upcoming large-sized mobile device that runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop straight out of the box are worth saving up for?

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+

The new product under the Galaxy S6 line comes with a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution with 519 ppi pixel density, as well as Samsung's groundbreaking Curved Edge screen. 

It is equipped with an Exynos 7420 chipset and quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 or quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex-A57 processor, as well as Mali-T760MP8. It also has 4 GB of RAM with an option of 32 GB or 64 GB internal memory capacity. 

The device also features a 16-megapixel primary rear camera with LED flash and autofocus options, and a 5-megapixel secondary camera for selfie shots. 

The device is currently offered by different U.S. network providers with prices ranging from $696 up to $888 without contract.

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium

The large-screen version of the latest Sony Xperia Z5 flagship product, which happens to be the first phablet with 4K display, was announced during the Japanese mobile manufacturing company's press conference at the start of the IFA 2015 trade launch in Berlin last week. 

The 5.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display is fitted with 2160 x 3840 pixel resolution with 806 ppi pixel density. It is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 chipset with quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 and quad-core 2 GHz Cortex-A57 processor, and an Adreno 430 graphic processor under the hood. It also has 3 GB of RAM with a built-in 32 GB memory that can be expanded using the microSD slot. 

The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium also comes with a groundbreaking 23-megapixel primary camera at its rear and a 5.1-megapixel secondary camera. 

However, compared to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+, Sony's device has yet to be shipped to retails stores, with its reported release date sometime in November. The device will allegedly be sold for $955.
