Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini specs and release rumors: New leaked images give first look of the device

The unannounced Samsung Galaxy S6 mini is shown in a set of new leaked photos, which Phone Arena obtained from a loyal reader. Although admittedly dark, the photos are enough to show what users are in for with the smaller version of Samsung's flagship.

As far as design goes, the downsized handset looks like the standard version. Basically, it's a Samsung Galaxy S6 squeezed into a compact build. Just like the original, this smaller S6 is also framed with a metal chassis.

Also, the images show that the Samsung Galaxy S6 mini is keeping the microUSB port, 3.5 mm audio jack and loudspeaker in the same place where its bigger brother has them. The darkness of the photos does not allow users to take a good look at the handset's rear.

Samsung remains mum about the existence of the device but according to Phone Arena, the South Korea-based tech giant was also silent before it released the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active. The company may just be using the same strategy for the S6 mini.

The site also says that users should expect downgrades on the hardware side of the Samsung Galaxy S6 mini. Not counting Sony's Compact lineup, downscaled versions of flagships often get lower specs compared to their parent device to compensate for the smaller build.

That said, the device is expected to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 16 GB inbuilt storage and 2 GB of RAM. The display is reportedly around 4.6 inches to 4.7 inches with 720p resolution. On its rear could be a 15-megapixel shooter with LED flash and video capture.

With the device fully furnished as seen on the images, it is expected that Samsung will officially lift the veil off the Samsung Galaxy S6 mini on Aug. 13 alongside its giant kin, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and the Galaxy Note 5.
