As the highly anticipated Mobile World Congress inches closer, the rumors about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 intensify. Now, reports citing unnamed industry sources deem that Samsung's flagship smartphone will be announced at the MWC kicking off on March 2. There is no official word from the South Korea-based company yet, but if rumors prove to be true, then the handset might just be available through various carriers and retailers by the end of March.

As for the specs and features, the smartphone is purported to feature a 5.5-inch screen display with quadHD resolution, while some reports are predicting an UltraHD 4K display. A leak from India said that the handset will sport a 5-inch screen panel.

Other expected specifications of the handset are: 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB and 64 GB storage variants with microSD slot for additional storage, 16-megapixel rear camera, 3.1-megapixel front-facing camera, and longer battery life. It is also rumored to include fingerprint sensor and Android 5.0 Lollipop OS out-of-the box.

Possibly the biggest surprise in the forthcoming handset is its processor as the smartphone is reported to sport the company's own Exynos 7420 chipset, ditching Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor. Samsung reportedly opted for Exynos 7 as the new Snapdragon 810 chipset has alleged overheating issues. Moreover, the company is said to be seeking independence from its partners and suppliers. One of the perks of Exynos 7 is the fact that it supports Cat 10 (452.2 Mbps downlink and 102 Mbps uplink).

While switching processors will put a dent on Qualcomm's earnings, it will be beneficial to Samsung as it will enable the company to gain a good market share.

2014 was not a great year for Samsung as the sales fell below the expectations of the company. The annual net profit dropped by 23.2 percent, according to the report by Tech First Post. The company is undoubtedly hoping to turn things around with the release of a more powerful smartphone.
