South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics just released the Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone last April, followed by its variant, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active handset, last June 12 in the U.S. via wireless carrier AT&T Inc.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active inherits most of the hardware specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S6, but with more features on top such as water resistance and longer battery life compared to its predecessor.

Both phones have 5.1 inch Super AMOLED display screens and are protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass 4. They run on the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop operating system and come with the Exynos 7420 chipset.

In addition, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active lacks the fingerprint scanning technology that's found in the Galaxy S6. Nevertheless, PC Magazine reported that the Galaxy S6 Active handset was commended for its superb performance and excellent display, camera and extended battery life.

The Galaxy S6 is powered by a non-removable 2550 mAh battery, while the Galaxy S6 Active variant comes with a bigger and superior 3500 mAh battery.

According to GSM Arena, the Galaxy S6 offers users up to 17 hours talk time and up to 49 hours music playing time. The Galaxy S6 Active variant, on the other hand, offers users up to 23 hours talk time and up to 57 hours music playing time.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active also offers users the "Activity Zone", a feature that comes with a compass and flashlight, among others. This handset is definitely attractive for active users such as athletes.

According to AT&T, the Galaxy S6 Active comes in camo white, camo blue and gray colors. For the Galaxy S6, the colors available are white pearl, blue topaz, black sapphire and gold platinum.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active smartphone can also be dipped into water for up to 30 minutes, according to its IP68 rating.
