Samsung Galaxy S6 to battle iPhone 6 with curved screen on both sides

Will the soon-to-be released Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge look exactly like the Galaxy Note Edge?Samsung Galaxy website

Apple's highly popular iPhone 6 may face serious competition with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 as new reports claim that the handset from the South Korean tech giant will feature curved screens on both sides.

Bloomberg reported that Samsung is prepping for the launch of the Galaxy S6 scheduled on March 1. The company will reportedly announce two variants of the smartphone, both sporting a 5.1-inch screen and Samsung's most powerful mobile processor. The two are set apart by the curved screen.

One variant, the Galaxy S6 Edge, allegedly comes with a curved display that can be viewed from three sides – front, right, and left. The curved screen was first seen in the Galaxy Note Edge, which is said to be immensely popular. Samsung most likely wants to repeat the winning strategy; however, this time it includes curves on both sides. The side screen will show "added information," probably a dock for notifications and opened apps, to the user.

According to the report, Samsung is trying to set itself apart from the crowd as almost every smartphone packs the same look and specs. Moreover, reports say that the Galaxy S6 will have aesthetics different from its predecessor. It can be speculated that Samsung hopes the curved screen would be a game changer and would help salvage the line from its slump.

Just like the Note 4 and Note Edge, the two Samsung Galaxy S6 variants are expected to pack similar specs and features that may make the competition nervous. The report is almost certain that the handset will house Samsung's own octa-core Exynos 7420 chipset with 64-bit architecture. Other features of the smartphone include: 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, and a 20-megapixel rear camera with 4K video recording and 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and Android 5.0 Lollipop OS.

However, there is no official confirmation from Samsung yet but the real details of the Galaxy S6 are expected to be announced on March 1.
