Previous rumors claimed that Samsung will be outing the Active version of its current-gen Galaxy S7 lineup later this month. Now, the South Korea-based tech conglomerate surprised fans with an early announcement of the new lineup addition, which will roll out from AT&T on June 10.

AT&T has already released a teaser trailer on what fans can expect from the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active. Although the new addition is an "upgrade" over the base model, there are only minor differences between the Galaxy S7 and its Active version, particularly the design.

According to Android Authority, the two share similarities under the hood. The Galaxy S7 Active also houses the same Snapdragon 820 processor, paired with 4GB of RAM. In addition, both the base model and the Active version share the same 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display, with 1440 x 2560 resolution.

However, the Galaxy S7 Active is geared towards a more dynamic lifestyle, as with the previous Active versions for past Galaxy S-series flagships. The screen for the new addition has been strengthened and features a "shatter-resistant" screen. Meanwhile, it may rugged and thicker in comparison with the base model, since the Galaxy S7 Active sports MIL STD-810G rating, in addition to the IP6X rating for water- and dust-proofing features. The military-grade protection means that the Galaxy S7 Active will also work in extreme temperatures and high/low pressure conditions.

Meanwhile, since the Active version is focused on dynamic users, Samsung also upgraded some components under the hood, particularly its usage time. The Galaxy S7 Active feature 4,000 mAh of battery, which is massive compared to 3,000 mAh one inside the base model.

The Galaxy S7 Active goes on sale on June 10 for $26.50 for 30 months, or $33.13 for 24 months via AT&T.
