With Apple rumored to release its first 4-inch iPhone in years, Samsung is allegedly working on a smartphone that will give this so-called Apple iPhone SE a run for its money, thus comes the Samsung Galaxy S7 mini.

According to new reports, this mini version of its newly released flagship will come in a 4.6-inch display with a 720×1280 screen resolution. Samsung will be equipping the Samsung Galaxy S7 mini with either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 or an Exynos 8890.

These are the same units in the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge and they will certainly provide the device an impressive amount of power especially for its smaller size and rumored thin build at only 9.9mm.

The purported Samsung Galaxy S7 mini is rumored to sport a 12MP rear-facing camera and is said to house 3 GB of RAM. The rest of the smartphone's specs sheet is shrouded in mystery at the moment, although a "periscope lens" with 3x optical zoom is expected to come with it.

As it always is with rumors, users are recommended to take this report with a pinch of salt. Samsung itself has not corroborated the news, although the South Korea-based company is known for releasing mini versions of its handsets in the past.

That being said, it is entirely possible that Samsung Galaxy S7 mini will be unveiled by the tech giant soon. With the Apple iPhone SE rumored to be launched on March 21 along with the iPad Pro mini, it looks like Samsung will make the device official soon.

The iPhone SE is rumored to come with a 4-inch display. An A9 processor will power it up and it will enjoy majority of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus's features except the 3D Touch and the Live Photos, which Apple is said to make exclusive to its September 2015-released flagship.
