Samsung Galaxy S7 release date and specs: pressure-sensitive screen to be featured

Will the next-generation Samsung Galaxy S7 bring back the microSD card slot?Samsung Official

Samsung continues to bring something exciting to all of its fans, and the latest report on one of the features of its future devices may put the Korean tech company ahead of its rivals.

According to a Dec. 14 report from the Wall Street Journal via several media outlets, Samsung will incorporate a pressure-sensitive screen to its upcoming smartphones. The feature is likely to be found in the rumored Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

A pressure-sensitive screen is not a surprising feature from smartphones since this technology has already been adopted by giants Apple and Huawei. Ars Technica gathered that the feature is the biggest news reported and is described to be similar to the technology — the 3D touch — that came with the recently released iPhone 6s.

Apart from the screen technology, a source for WSJ reportedly said that the Galaxy S7 may also feature a retina scanner.

Samsung has yet to make a comment on the recent reports.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy S7 is still in the rumor category — one that's been making the rounds for months.

As previously reported, the device is said to come in two options: one with a 5.2-inch display and the other sporting a 5.7-inch screen. The microSD card slot is also said to return with the upcoming smartphone.

Ars Technica mentioned that Galaxy S6 was the first phone from Samsung that ditched the microSD slot, but the company is said to bring it back, but only to the flat models and not to the Edge versions.

As for the release date, nothing has been confirmed as of the moment and fans can only wait for an announcement from Samsung on when exactly a new device will be coming out.

However, WSJ noted in its report that the unveiling of a new Samsung flagship could be sometime in March at a Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, just like last year when the world got introduced to the Galaxy S6.
