Samsung Galaxy S8 release date, specs rumors: New device to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 835?

The soon-to-be-released Samsung Galaxy S8 will be equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset if rumors turn out to correct.

Chinese news outlet Anzhuo spotted a report from Weibo claiming that the next flagship smartphone from Samsung will have the powerful Snapdragon 835 chipset that will allow the device to have better performance with lesser power consumption.

According to the leaked report, the new chipset from Qualcomm that has a model number MSM8998 can handle octa-core processors with Kryo 200 CPU. It also revealed that the rumored device will also have the Adreno 540 GPU with Qualcomm's latest high-end Snapdragon X16 modem that can allow up to 1 Gbps of download speeds.

The news about the inclusion of the Snapdragon 835 first came out when Samsung Foundry Business Executive Vice President Jong Shik Yoon talked about it through the company's news site. "We are pleased to have the opportunity to work closely with Qualcomm Technologies in producing the Snapdragon 835 using our 10nm FinFET technology," the Samsung executive said. "This collaboration is an important milestone for our foundry business as it signifies confidence in Samsung's leading chip process technology."

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. senior vice president Keith Kressin also addressed the news about their company's collaboration with Samsung using their Snapdragon 835 processor product. "Using the new 10nm process node is expected to allow our premium tier Snapdragon 835 processor to deliver greater power efficiency and increase performance while also allowing us to add a number of new capabilities that can improve the user experience of tomorrow's mobile devices," Kressin stated.

Other rumors about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 includes the possible RAM upgrade of the device. According to reports, the next Samsung Galaxy flagship smartphone will come out with 6 GB of RAM. It is also expected to have better camera features as well.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is also expected to be released during the 2017 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February.
