One of the most competitive smartphone brands in the galaxy has had new leaks for its upcoming flagship smartphone, as information about the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus has been unveiled online.

A new detail about the upcoming successor to the Galaxy S8 flagship Android phone from Samsung shows that the fingerprint sensor, one of the most awkward features of the S8, has now been relocated on the S9. The sensor, which allows users to unlock their smartphones using just their fingers has been moved to the front of the phone, beneath the screen.

Samsung, apparently, is also securing the rights to this technological step by filing a patent for it with South Korean trademarking company Kipris. The fingerprint sensor may be housed within a small depression in the smartphone's screen, perhaps even just a notch, similar to iPhone X's design. This notch will also be minimal and unobtrusive to the bezel-less design, which is one of the most popular smartphone trends and features nowadays.

Samsung users expecting this on the Galaxy S9, however, may have to curb their excitement levels as there is a possibility that the minimalist fingerprint sensor may not debut in the S9. Reports are, Samsung still won't be able to develop the optical fingerprint sensor's integration with the smartphone's screen in time for the S9 launch. As such, the technology may be deferred for the bigger Galaxy Note 9 instead.

So far, there have been no 3D renders yet for the design of the notch, so it is unknown how it will affect the overall structure of the S9 and S9 Plus. The Galaxy S9 is said to be featuring a 5.9-inch screen, while the bigger S9 Plus will be getting a 6.2-inch screen.

It seems that Samsung has made good on its promises of improving the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus and actually listened to consumer feedback of the rear fingerprint scanner being awkward to use and having a difficult positioning.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are speculated to be released in the first quarter of 2018, which is also around the same time in 2017 that the S8 and S8 Plus were released.
