The Samsung Galaxy S9 is one of the most anticipated gadgets to be released this year. Fans wondering how the upcoming flagship looks can see it at its official unveiling at the Unpacked event, which will primarily showcase the said device. Some leaks of the 3D renders for the device have recently been released, though, courtesy of an Android app that Samsung published in advance.

The app is named Unpacked 2018, and it is available to download in advance by consumers who plan to attend Samsung's Unpacked event. It can also be downloaded by users who want to view the live feed of the upcoming event.

However, a Reddit user going by the name /u/thesbros found out that the app does something so much more exciting. By dismantling the app apart, the Reddit user discovered that attendees can use it to "experience" the Samsung Galaxy S9 via augmented reality (AR).

Attendees who have downloaded the app can swipe their Unpacked event lanyard or badges on their phone and the app will project the Galaxy S9's appearance via AR. There were even variations in colors and, because it will be in AR, users can see the upcoming flagship phone in different angles.

Reddit user /u/thesbros also took time to gather the 3D renders of the S9 available via the app. It was not an easy tas, as the renders to be used for the AR projection were actually stored on Samsung's servers and not on the app. However, the user still managed to modify the app and used a proxy so he can download the 3D models. He then shared the models with the rest of the internet.

Needless to say, those who saw the models learned a lot about the S9. For example, the Lilac Purple shade was confirmed to be an available option, as well as the presence of the Bixby button on the phone.

The Unpacked 2018 event, which will showcase the Samsung Galaxy S9, will happen on Feb. 26 at the Mobile World Congress 2018 to be held in Barcelona, Spain.
