Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 release date, specs and features: two new tablets out in August

Almost a year after the release of Samsung's Tab S tablets back in July 2014, the South Korean tech giant is now preparing to release new successors by next month. The company has just unveiled the new Tab S2 tablet, which is expected to come in two different models. One model sports an 8-inch display screen while the other comes with a larger 9.7-inch size

Samsung President and Chief Executive Officer Jong-Kyun Shin of IT & Mobile said in regards to the new tablet, "The Galaxy Tab S2 is not only our thinnest and lightest tablet of its size ever, it also gives users quick, easy access to a wealth of superior viewing and productivity features,"

"We believe the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is the most complete personal visual device designed for consumers to carry and use anywhere," Samsung added.

Suitable for reading digital contents, both the Tab S2 models pack the company's own Exynos 5433 SoC processors, 3GB RAM, and up to 64GB expandable internal memory capacity.

Both sport Super AMOLED display screens with 2048 x 1536 pixel resolutions, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera.

The 8-inch Tab S2 model has a massive 4,000 mAh battery, while the 9.7-inch version comes with a larger 5,870 mAh battery. They run on the new Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system (OS) and support WiFi 802.11a/b/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity.

Samsung Tomorrow said, "The Galaxy Tab S2 also makes it comfortable to read digital content, including e-books, magazines, webpages and newsfeeds. This reading-optimized ratio allows the user to enjoy a seamless reading experience without unnecessary scrolling."

In addition, Samsung Mobile Press adds that the new tablet also comes with a fingerprint scanning technology that enables users to authenticate via touch, "A built-in advanced security sensor now offers easy access to the personal device with a simple press against the home key," said the report.

Also, the announcement by Samsung comes after it released its thinnest smartphone to date — the Samsung Galaxy A8. This phone sports a 5.7-inch display screen and comes in a 5.9mm thin body, weighing about 151 grams.
