As Apple slowly claws its way to the top of the food chain of being the largest smartphone maker in the world, its closest rival in the industry, Samsung is looking for ways to maintain its supremacy as well as its own market share, which has plummeted to 19.8 percent in a small time span that has covered just 12 months.

Apart from rolling out a Galaxy S6 that will possess tons of features along with a premium metal finish, the company's upcoming Galaxy Tab S2 lineup of tablets are rumored to be thinner than the Cupertino tech giant's flagship slate, the iPad Air 2. Apple's offering currently possesses a thickness of 6.1 mm, meaning that the Galaxy Tab S2 lineup will have to sport a thickness that is below that measurement in order to overtake the 9.7 inch tablet.

According to Sammobile, the Galaxy Tab S2 might not have its thickness dimensions unveiled, but it has been revealed that the tablets will be shipping out in the 8 and 9.7 inch variants. The company's previous flagship tablet lineup, which has been named the Galaxy Tab S, featured two tablet sizes; an 8.4 inch and a 10.5 inch one. It is expected that the upcoming slates will feature an all metal finish, similar to the Galaxy S6, and while the following has not been confirmed, it is possible that the slates will also be featuring a near 'pure Android' experience.

Samsung's Galaxy S6 is going to be unveiled on March 1, 2015, which is exactly one day before the Mobile World Congress kicks off in Barcelona. Samsung prevented Qualcomm's chipset to be incorporated in to its flagship phone in favor of its own Exynos 7420 octa-core chipset. It looks like the process is going to be replicated when the upcoming tablets are concerned. In terms of performance, the Exynos 7420 is able to beat the A8X chipset in the multi-core test of the GeekBench benchmark but falls short when the single core test is concerned.
