Although it is already expected that Samsung will continue its wearable lineup, a new Samsung Gear S this year is still a surprise. In addition, it is said that the new Gear S3 will have a base model and a "super luxury" version.

According to GSM Arena, hints of the upcoming Gear S3 came from jeweler de Grisogono. Reportedly, a representative of the company, speaking at a Conde Nast Luxury Conference event in Seoul, Korea confirmed that it is working on a diamond-studded version of the Samsung Gear S2. The official then inadvertently let it slip that de Grisogono is doing the same "super luxury" version for the Gear S3.

The luxurious Gear S2 has already been hinted at by Samsung at this year's Baselworld event, and based on the specs and design, will cost around $15,000. This price tag nets the Gear S2 in almost 100 black and white diamond, with a rose gold bezel and black galuchat (shark skin) strap.

The top-tier jeweler's edition of the Samsung Gear S2 also seems a limited exclusive per batch, since only 100 handcrafted versions per month were made available to date.

Phone Arena surmises that since the Gear S3 will be the second time that Samsung and de Grisogono will pair up, the timeline for the next Samsung wearable's release can also be expected to be similar. This means that fans can expect the Samsung Gear S3 to appear at this year's IFA event in Berlin in September, much like how the Gear S2 was unveiled at the 2015 IFA. Meanwhile, the "super luxury" version of the Gear S3 will most likely appear at next year's Baselworld event.

The luxury version for the Gear S wearables is a recent offering from Samsung. It is more than likely that the South Korea-based tech giant is looking to battle head-on another luxury wearable player, the Apple Watch Edition.
