Samsung is gearing up for the big release of the next device in its ever popular Galaxy Note series, with the Galaxy Note 9 supposedly set to debut in August.

But that may not be the only hotly anticipated device coming out that month if the latest rumors are to be believed.

The South Korean news site ETnews (via SamMobile) reports that the tech giant will also be bringing out the Samsung Gear S4 smartwatch in August too.

The current rumors place the launch date of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 on August 9 so it's possible that the smartwatch will even share that launch date as well.  But another possible reveal could happen at the IFA 2018 taking place in Berlin from August 31 to September 5, 2018.

There are not just rumors doing the rounds about the possible launch date of the Samsung Gear S4 as there are the specs to consider too.

Not too much has been officially confirmed about the gadget just yet. Rumors suggest that the successor to the Gear S3 will come with a new panel level package (PLP) chip that may make it a little thinner than its predecessor and maybe even shave a little off the price tag too.

According to SamMobile, tipster 'Ice universe' posted on Chinese social media network Weibot that Samsung is scaling up the battery size for the Gear S4, which he claimed would clock in at 470mAh, making it more powerful than the battery in the Gear S3 and the Samsung Gear Sport.  We can only hope that adds up to a longer lifespan for the device too.

Ice Universe has a good track record in reliable tips but it remains to be seen what Samsung actually does with the next iteration of the smartwatch and whether it brings out a fashion variant and sport variant as it has done in previous iterations.

SamMobile also reported that the Gear S4 would be releasing in three different color variations - silver, gold and black.  If that's true, we would expect the fashion variant to offer the gold shade but it's possible Samsung would offer both variants in all three shades.

Of course these are just rumors for now.  We'll just have to wait to see what Samsung unveils, hopefully in just a couple of months.
