The San Francisco 49ers are going through one of the team's worse offseason as players are retiring or have transferred to other teams because of free agency but defensive end Darnell Dockett believes they will be contenders next season.

Dockett joined the 49ers this offseason after 11 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and expressed his thoughts on what the team can achieve next season through his Twitter account.

"Don't ask me about who's retired and what's going on with football this and that.... We will still WIN! Just watch! #savage #adversity," the 34-year-old tweeted.

Dockett again tweeted and exclaimed, "The story in the end will be that much better!!!!"

The latest blow for San Francisco is the announcement of right tackle Anthony Davis that he will be stepping away from the game and will "be back in a year or so," NBC Sports reported.

The 25-year-old made the announcement Friday and is considering his health when he made the decision, according to ESPN.

Davis is now the 12^th player that the 49ers lost this offseason as he joined linebackers Patrick Willis and Chris Borland and defensive end Justin Smith who officially retired.

Meanwhile, cornerbacks Chris Culliver (Washington Redskins) and Perrish Cox (Tennessee Titans), running back Frank Gore (Indianapolis Colts), guard Mike Iupati (Arizona), linebacker Dan Skuta (Jacksonville Jaguars) and receiver Michael Crabtree (Oakland Raiders) all left the 49ers during free agency, ESPN reported.

ESPN also reported that Defensive lineman Ray McDonald was cut by the team while offensive lineman Jonathan Martin was waived.

The 49ers also traded 11-year veteran punter Andy Lee to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a seventh-round pick in 2017.

It is not all departure for the 49ers as they added former Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith, former Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush with Dockett and will be led by newly appointed head coach Jim Tomsula.
