The San Francisco 49ers will have to be wiser when posting their thoughts on social media as head coach Jim Tomsula told reporters during the first day of their mandatory minicamp that he looks to watch over his players in using their accounts.

"The message will be just here it is, this is what it is, and how do you use this and how do you live with this in our world? I could say something to you right now and in the next sentence say I didn't mean that," Tomsula said according to ESPN.

"Well, to me that's what you can't do on the social media. God knows as much as I misspeak I'd be a disaster on that stuff," he added.

The most recent 49er to have a social media issue is quarterback Colin Kaepernick who tweeted about the flooding in Houston last month.

"I warned you the #7tormsComing!! #Houston," Kaepernick tweeted on May 26 and later apologized for the insensitive post.

Tomsula stood by his quarterback and told reporters, "That was a mistake that he didn't have all the facts, wasn't sure what it was, saw a picture and apologized. [He] owned it."

In a report by ESPN, 49ers kicker Phil Dawson and offensive lineman Alex Boone had the same message as Tomsula who calls for a much cautious use of social media.

"Guys need to understand that anything you put out there represents you and your team and your family and all that," Dawson stated. "Coach Tomsula does a good job of making sure that's on the front of our minds."

Boone agreed saying, "Guys have to worry too much about what the fans think nowadays."

"If you wouldn't want your mom to see it, then don't post it. I've had to restrain myself a few times, believe me," he added.

Meanwhile, Tomsula said he is not using social media adding that he does not want to inform everyone where he is at or what he is doing.

"I don't get it personally. And it just so happens every time I do hear about it, it's not in a good way," Tomsula also stated.
