The "Saw" franchise, which was started by now-famous horror director James Wan, has been dormant since the seventh film was released back in 2010. However, as per a report from Deadline, the series is coming back with an eighth film that will launch in October 2017.

According to the report, "Daybreakers" directors Michael and Peter Spierig will be helming the film together. James Wan and Leigh Whannell are both going to serve as executive producers. Screen Rant points out that Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger, who wrote the screen play for "Piranha 3D," will be penning the script for the new "Saw" film.

The report continues to state that the eighth film will be titled "Saw Legacy" and there are no confirmations yet if Tobin Bell will be returning to reprise his role as John Kramer aka Jigsaw, the main antagonist of the series. Fans will take note that Jigsaw officially died in "Saw III" but numerous characters have since taken up his legacy in the sequels.

Jigsaw also appeared in all seven films, either alive or via flashbacks, and it is possible he will be coming back via camera footage or flashbacks for the new movie. Bell has yet to comment on whether or not he has been approached to reprise the role.

Fans speculate that the title might hint at a soft reboot, a film which acknowledges the previous films but is now set with a different antagonist, different cast and new story that is not tied down to the older movies. This would be similar to how "GI Joe: Retaliation" is both a sequel and reboot to "GI Joe."

"Saw Legacy" will officially release on Oct. 27 2017 and is stated to be the only horror film launching on Halloween weekend but it is coming off the week right after the release of "Insidious: Chapter 4."
