'Scandal' season 5 episode 20 spoilers: Olivia and Abby team up to take on Doyle

Olivia has a trick or two up her sleeve in "Scandal" season 5 episode 20.ABC

In the penultimate episode of "Scandal" season 5, Olivia and Abby will realize that they are better off as a team than enemies. In episode 20, titled "Trump Card," the restored tandem will turn their attention to Doyle.

If there's one person reaping the fruits of Liv and Abby's efforts in helping their presidential bets, it's not Mellie o or Susan. It's Doyle, who earned a surprising surge of followers and is on his way to becoming the one to beat.

In the promo for "Scandal" season 5, episode 20, Liv and Abby agree to lock Doyle as their "target for destruction," but they continue to double-cross each other as they still find themselves cooking up schemes to bring each other down as well.

Abby turns to Rowan, who presents a document he said is guaranteed to "crush Mellie and give [Susan] a shot." Abby is on her guard throughout the dealing for fear she will be caught.

As Abby plays dirty, Liv doubles down on the backstabbing, too. To take down Susan and Abby, she appears to have teamed up with none other than frontrunner himself and their supposed prey, Doyle.

"So we got a deal?" Doyle asks Olivia with a big smile. She answers in the affirmative with a laugh, as if expressing amusement toward Doyle's need to even ask.

It is easy to think that Olivia is grassing on Abby and Susan, but knowing Liv, this "deal" might also be key to eliminating Doyle's chance to win the elections.

Meanwhile, Jake is doing his best to rig the elections too. A sneak peek of "Scandal" season 5, episode 20 shows Edison informing Jake that he will no longer be his vice president, news that did not sit well with the latter.

Jake insists on keeping the post and instructs Edison to "wait for us to turn you on and off and change your batteries" like he always did.

Edison asks what will happen if he says no, his expression suggesting that he does not even want to know. The sneak peek cuts before Jake could answer, but fans know that it will be something Edison wouldn't want to hear.

"Scandal" season 5, episode 20 "Trump Card" airs May 5 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
