"Scandal" season 6 will see Mellie (Bellamy Young) run for the presidency, and she will be going up against Frankie Vargas (Ricardo Chavira) and his running-mate, Cyrus (Jeff Perry). Speculations run high that the show may see Mellie win the seat right before the series is ended and replaced by "Notorious."

According to a report from Bustle, the show is mirroring the current Presidential elections between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. If Mellie were to win the Presidency, the report states that she may be heralded as one of the best U.S. Presidents on television.

Of course, for fans of the show, this would spin things around given that Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) is the current President. Not only would Mellie's victory be described as some form of vengeance towards Fitz, but it will also knock down the series' lead, Oliva Pope (Kerry Washington).

However, the show may not survive long enough to see Olivia and Fitz do anything about it as season 6 is widely speculated to be the show's last. According to Game N Guide, the sixth season is already getting cut short due to Kerry Washington's pregnancy, and this may lead ABC to cancel the show.

Washington's pregnancy has affected season 6's length, with the season airing only 16 episodes instead of the usual 22. However, neither ABC nor series creator Shonda Rhimes has commented on whether the show is indeed getting canceled soon or not.

The report does point out that if the show is indeed canceled then the new ABC series, "Notorious," may be moved to take the timeslot occupied by "Scandal" right now. It should be noted that "Notorious" just aired last Sept. 22, and there is no guarantee that the show is even going to push forward with season 2.

"Scandal" season 6 will continue with episode 4, "Tell Me a Secret," this Oct. 13.
