'Sea of Thieves' release date news: Official launch of much anticipated pirate simulator revealed

The upcoming action-adventure video game "Sea of Thieves" now has an exact launch date. The pirate simulator will available for the Xbox One family of devices as well as Windows 10 PC on March 20, 2018.

The official release date was announced during The Game Awards held in Los Angeles, California on Thursday. The game's official Twitter account also delivered the news to fans all over the world.

"Your days of plundering, braving the seas, solving riddles, stealing treasures, battling skeletons, drinking grog, dancing to sea shanties and more are drawing near at last," said Daley Johnson, community manager for "Sea of Thieves."

Developer Rare also revealed that "Sea of Thieves" is now available to pre-order for fans who can't wait to get their hands on the much-awaited game.

Those who will be ordering the game in advance will be getting exclusive access to the title's closed beta. This will be a great opportunity for fans to explore the world of pirates and become familiar with the gameplay ahead of the official launch.

Players who will be participating in the closed beta will also be getting free cosmetic items via the Black Dog Pack. It contains a bunch of exclusive equipment that will allow pirates to embark on their adventures in style.

Xbox will also be releasing a new wireless controller themed after the upcoming game. The Xbox Wireless Controller — "Sea of Thieves" Limited Edition has a deep purple translucent body with laser etched barnacles. It features one golden trigger button and a glow in the dark skull in the fashion of the game's logo right at the center of the controller.

The limited-edition controller is now available for pre-order for $74.99. It is expected to ship globally starting Feb. 6, 2018. Players who will be availing the themed controller will also get an exclusive ferryman clothing set.
