The Seattle Sounders FC will be continuing their Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Champions League (CCL) campaign Wednesday at home looking for their first victory in the tournament as they take on Club Deportivo Olimpia of Honduras.
Seattle opened their campaign with a 1–1 draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps FC whom they already faced for the fifth time in Major League Soccer (MLS) and CCL competition.
Now, they will be staring at an unfamiliar challenge, although Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid said last Monday, according to MLS.com, that they already have ideas about their foes since they watched some tapes.
Schmid also shared that they are aware Olimpia is not having a great start in their own league, but that does not matter since the CCL is a different competition.
Olimpia are struggling at the Liga Nacional de Honduras as they are the only club yet to register a win this season with a 0–3 record.
The match will be held at CenturyLink Field and the Sounders are looking to win the first of two games against Olimpia at home to have the advantage when they travel to Honduras next week for the second match.
Meanwhile, Olimpia hope that their losing streak ends when they take on Seattle and win their first CCL match.
In their MLS campaign, the Sounders defeated Orlando City SC last Sunday with a 4–0 drubbing to improve their record to 11–12–2 and grab a hold of the sixth spot in the Western Conference with 35 points, four points ahead of the seventh-seeded Houston Dynamo.
The Sounders hope the win gives them enough momentum heading to their second CCL game.
Seattle forward Clint Dempsey and midfielder Osvaldo Alonso are not expected to play Wednesday since they are both nursing hamstring injuries.
The match between the Sounders and Olimpia will be played on Aug. 19 at 10 p.m. EST and will be shown on Fox Sports 2. The game can be watched online through live stream by clicking here.
