"Secrets and Lies" ended on a dark note with Ben Crawford (Ryan Philippe) going to jail and taking the blame for the murder of Tom Murphy (Aiden Malik) when both Ben and Detective Andrea Cornell (Juliette Lewis) know that it was Ben's younger daughter, Abby (Belle Shouse), who accidentally killed her brother. 

According to a report from Deadline, season 2 isn't going to follow up right after the events of season 1. The report explains that the second season will follow an entirely different case and will involve an all-new cast. The only confirmed cast member returning for season 2 is Lewis as Detective Cornell. 

This might be a bit disconcerting for fans of the first season since it won't get a satisfactory resolution. The season ended with Ben in jail since neither he nor Detective Cornell had sufficient evidence to prove it was Abby. 

The online video ABC later released, titled "Cornell: Confidential: 14 Months Later," states that Ben died in prison but now, his older daughter Natalie (Indiana Evans) tells the police that she has evidence that can clear his name. Whatever this evidence is will never be brought to light, but it doesn't matter now since Ben already lost his life for a crime he didn't do. 

With the lead suspect dead in prison, the first season's case is concluded but it may not be the ending that fans had wanted to see. 

At this point there has been no official announcement from ABC regarding who the new cast members are or what the new case will be about. A report from the IBTimes surmises that the next season 2 might touch on Detective Cornell's history and her daughter who was revealed to have a criminal background.
