It has been quite a year for Selena Gomez. The former Disney star has gone back to making music and has released several new tracks this year, including the dance hit "I Want You to Know" and "Good for You". She has also been busy working on some new movies as she has finished filming "The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving" with Paul Rudd earlier this year, and the James Franco-directed drama "In Dubious Battle."

The actress, who just celebrated her 23rd birthday on July 22, has been in the business since she was just a child, landing a role on TV's "Barney and Friends" along with Demi Lovato in 2002. Looking back on her career, Gomez said that being in show business at an early age definitely contributed to her having grown up too fast.

"I was seven when I got my first role," said Gomez to TV Movie as quoted by Belfast Telegraph. "Even though it was a kid's show, I was surrounded by adults all day. I listened to them a lot and started to talk about things I probably wasn't old enough for."

Being a celebrity comes with its disadvantages, as Gomez is all too familiar with the pitfalls of fame, having put up with the loss of her privacy, especially when she was still dating Justin Bieber. Last year, it was reported that Gomez checked herself into rehab and spent two weeks at a facility in Arizona, and her representative told Daily Mail on February 2014 that she did spend time at the Dawn at the Meadows recovery center, but not for substance abuse. At the time, it was speculated that her on-off relationship with Bieber took a toll on her emotionally, which caused her to need some time out.

Despite its challenges, Gomez said that there are definite advantages to fame, as she is able to do some things that many others her age aren't able to. She told TV Movie that she feels most grown up when she pays her mortgage.

"It's the most expensive thing I've ever treated myself to, but also the best," she said.
