American professional tennis player Serena Williams recently opened up about the traumatic experiences she had undergone during and after giving birth to her daughter, Olympia. Williams is slated to be on the cover of the upcoming February issue of Vogue Magazine, wherein she details all the scary details of her postpartum complications, as well as her desire to raise awareness on the matter. 

Williams' fans were quite supportive of the ordeal that the 36-year-old tennis virtuoso has to do through. This prompted Williams to respond to them last Monday, wherein she expressed her gratitude to her loyal fans, and also stated that she is in disbelief with how much her personal story is affecting so many women who may have once shared the same experience as she did after child birth. 

Williams then stated that black women are three times more likely to be at risk of encountering complications from child birth compared to other races, making the issue something worthy of public discussion in the effort to raise awareness on the matter. Williams also pointed out that the prevalence of the issue should spur some action from the country, and hopes that her personal experience can inspire others to solve this problem. 

The legendary tennis player ended her message by emphasizing that all women deserve the best care when giving birth for the sake of both the mother and the child. 

While Williams was in labor, she had to undergo an emergency C-section due to the rapid drop of her heart rate while she was contracting. The following day, the doctors found that Williams had blood clots in her lungs, which led to her coughing so intensely that the wound from her C-section tore open. These unfortunate circumstances led to a hematoma in Williams' abdomen, wherein there was a massive buildup of clotted tissues.
