One of the women's semi-finals matches in Wimbledon 2015 will feature two of the most familiar faces in the sport: Serena Williams, currently the world's top female tennis player, and Maria Sharapova. now seeded fourth.

Williams and Sharapova have previously faced each other 19 times, with the American winning 17 of those matchups.

Sharapova advanced to the semi-finals after beating American Coco Vandeweghe 6-3 6-7 (3) 6-2 Tuesday at Centre Court.

But the victory comes with controversy for Sharapova, as Vandeweghe accused her of bad sportsmanship.

In a report by ESPN Vandeweghe said: "She was moving around in the middle of my motion on my second serve. [The umpire] said she didn't believe she was doing it during the motion. I strongly disagreed."

Vandeweghe said she was trying to play fair and Sharapova was not doing the same, so she decided to speak to the umpire about it, although the official did not see the same thing and did nothing about it.

Meanwhile, Sharapova commented that that was just how the game went and she was just happy to make it to the next round.

"I mean, it is what it is. What she said, I'm not going to argue against her words," Sharapova told ESPN.

"It's been a while since I've been at that stage, so I'm really happy with every match that I've competed out here and been able to win some in two sets, and today in three. I'm just through, so that gives me a lot of confidence," the 2004 champion added.

Williams defeated Belarus' Victoria Azarenka 3-6 6-2 6-3 to advance to the semi-finals. "It was really fun out there. I was smiling at one point and I saw Victoria smiling as well. We both really enjoyed it," Williams, 33, said of her match against Azarenka, according to BBC Sports.

Williams added: "It's been up and down, up and down, but somehow I'm still alive. I'm just happy to be here."

Both Sharapova and Williams are looking forward to their 20th meeting, a semi-finals matchup. "Definitely no secrets between each other's games. That would be an incredible moment for me to step out on Centre Court against her again," Sharapova told ESPN. 

Williams told BBC Sports: "It's been a while, but she's been playing really well. She's such a fighter. I look forward to it. I don't have anything to lose, I'm just going in there trying to win a match."
