'Shadow of the Colossus' news: PS4 remaster announced

"Shadow of the Colossus" looms ever bigger once more, as the developers have revealed a PlayStation 4 (PS4) remaster of the award-winning game.

Developer and publisher Bluepoint Games and JAPAN Studio have announced that they are now hard at work to bring the classic gargantuan slaying experience to the next generation. The developers have admitted redesigning the game from the ground up since its last platform was the year 2000's PlayStation 2.

Included in the high-definition (HD) remaster is improved performance, possibly 60-frames-per-second frame rate, and additional graphical settings. These will join to make sure the game holds its own against current generation games from PS4. That said, with the age of the game, players should not expect too monumental a leap from the original.

It is also not yet known whether the developers plan to introduce new and never-before-seen content into the remaster. The official PS4 page of the said remasters seems to only mention the core gameplay mechanics and the graphical improvements.

"Shadow of the Colossus" was first released back in 2005 and is a PlayStation exclusive. The story revolves around a man named Wander who enters a forbidden land and must kill 16 giant beings called the colossi. This was in order to restore the life of a deceased girl named Mono.

Throughout his journey, Wander is accompanied by his faithful but stubborn steed named Argo who helps him not only during travels but also in combat against the colossi. As per the title, the game's selling point is the colossi, which are akin to walking puzzles since it will take more than skill and agility to beat them.

It is important to note that the game has no other enemies other than the aforementioned 16 colossi, and most of the gameplay involves exploration and the journey to locate the 16 giants.

The remastered "Shadow of the Colossus" is set to be released on Feb. 6, 2018 and will only be available on the PlayStation 4.
