'Shadow of the Colossus' remake sales news 2018: #1 in UK chart, beats 'Assassin's Creed Origins' in sales

Action adventure video game "Shadow of the Colossus" was already a best-selling title when it was first released for the PlayStation 2 in October of 2005. Now that the remake is out, the title set records again when it recently topped the United Kingdom sales charts for video games.

Chart Track, a company that tracks sales records for video games in the UK, reported that sales of the remake were up by 73 percent compared to the original. All the more impressive is the fact that the company had not accounted for digital sales of the game, which can also be a significant part of the remake's revenue.

It should be noted that the recent remake is not a first for "Shadow of the Colossus." The game was once updated and included in the "Ico & Shadow of the Colossus" collection which was made available for the PlayStation 3. However, the latest is a version that rebuilt the game from the ground up.

Other than the remake finishing at the number 1 spot, most of the UK top 10 list remains unchanged. "EA Sports UFC3" nabs the second spot, followed by "Monster Hunter: World." These were then followed by another sports title, "FIFA 18."

Two popular titles grabbed the fifth and sixth spots, respectively: "Grand Theft Auto 5" and "Call of Duty: WW2." These were followed by two Nintendo favorites, "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" and "Super Mario Odyssey" on the seventh and eighth spot.

The top 10 list concludes with "Assassin's Creed Origins" and "The Evil Within 2" on the ninth and tenth spot, respectively.

One notable addition to the chart (beyond the top ten list) is the inclusion of "Dragon Quest Builders" for the Nintendo Switch. This new entry placed 31st in the chart.

"Shadow of the Colossus" was launched earlier this month. It is available for the PlayStation 4.
