'Shazam!' director confirms 2019 release date

The "Shazam!" movie is expected to premiere in 2019.DC Comics

Get ready for "Shazam!" to hit theaters. Director David F. Sandberg has revealed that the upcoming DC film will be released in April 2019.

It can be recalled that Warner Bros. Pictures released the list of DC films that will hit theaters until 2020. The announcement, which was made in 2014, includes the film "Shazam!" Earlier this year, Warner Bros. announced that director Sandberg would be handling directorial duties with pre-production already underway.

Sandberg made the announcement on Reddit. It's no surprise since Warner Bros. has a good track record when it comes to following the production schedules of their DC films. However, the director hasn't confirmed that the release date will be on April 5, 2019, like the one listed on the announcement, but insiders are confident that the production team will meet the deadline

With the confirmation of "Shazam!'s" release date, this could put Warner Bros. one step closer to their DC Cinematic Universe blueprint of launching three films per year. So far, the film outfit has released two DC films last year with "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Suicide Squad" and this year with "Wonder Woman" and "Justice League." In 2019, "Shazam" flies into theaters alongside "Wonder Woman 2."

Fans are still excitedly anticipating who will play the dual role of Billy Batson and Shazam but the search is on and the casting announcement should be made soon. "Shazam!" will be included in the DC continuity and some fans are wondering if Henry Cavill's Superman will make a cameo after his resurrection in "Justice League." The Man of Steel would make a great mentor for the young powerful hero and will allow both characters to explore lighter themes.

It is worthy to note that "Shazam!" has received so much prominence in the DC Cinematic Universe with a solo movie being launched before other more famous DC characters like Batman, Flash and Cyborg to name a few.
