'Shenmue 3' release date on PS4, PC: Game to be available on discs for Playstation 4, PC or console

"Shenmue 3" will be made available in disc form for Playstation 4, PC or console when it is finally ready to be released.

Ys Net, the game's developers, made the announcement on Kickstarter over the holiday weekend.

Kickstarter backers can secure their own disc copy of "Shenmue 3" by pledging $60 to the campaign, according to Polygon. Once a backer has pledged the $60, they can choose from one of four options on the kind of copy of the game they want to receive. They can either opt for a digital copy of the game for the Playstation 4 or the Windows PC, or the disc copy for the console or the PC.

Each backer can only receive one game format for one platform with each $60 contribution. The game's developers have also said backers who have already pledged and chosen to receive a PC disc of "Shenmue 3" can still have their choice changed to a disc for Playstation 4.

Prices vary for the specific copies of the game. Those who will opt for a digital copy for either the PC or Playstation are only required to pledge $29, according to Engadget.

In related news, the Kickstarter campaign for "Shenmue 3" has proven to be wildly successful, with the game now climbing to the top 10 of the most funded campaigns on the web site.

"Shenmue 3" currently counts $4.3 million in funding ever since its campaign started. The game now only trails "Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night," with $5.5 million, on the list of most successful video game campaigns on Kickstarter, according to IGN

The game has already eclipsed its initial funding goal of $2 million, and with the campaign still running until July 17, the $4.3-million figure could still climb further and allow the game to settle at a higher spot among Kickstarter's top campaigns.

"Shenmue 3" is currently scheduled to be released in December 2017.
