'Sherlock' season 4 air date, spoilers: Benedict Cumberbatch talks Sherlock's changes

Benedict Cumberbatch plays the role of Sherlock Holmes in BBC's 'Sherlock' BBC

Benedict Cumberbatch teases a different Sherlock when the titular character returns to BBC for season 4.

In an interview with Collider early this month, the actor revealed that the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes will exude a lot of personality changes in the next installment of the series.

Cumberbatch also revealed that Sherlock was influenced by Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) to understand the way of the world.

"There's a pragmatism to it. It's not whimsical or sentimental. It's born out of necessity," the actor added.

Meanwhile, speculations claim that the fourth season of "Sherlock" might be the last for the series. But series creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss kidded in an interview with Independent UK that there might not be a season 5, yet they can guarantee that there will be a season 6.

However, Cumberbatch seemed to be unsure if he can still reprise his role as Sherlock Holmes for more seasons.

"It's about what's actually right for the show, to be honest, and that has to be judged very carefully," Cumberbatch stated. "Think about the very limited but classic British output of certain shows, and there aren't that many of them."

The actor, who currently has his hands full in his other acting projects such as "Doctor Strange," "Rogue Male," "Jungle Book," and "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" among others, may be too busy to return to the series after season 4.

However, the series creators seem to have plans for the future of the series. This could mean that they might have to plan on continuing the show even without Cumberbatch in it.

In related news, Gatiss posted a photo on Twitter that seems to indicate that filming for the upcoming season finally drew to a close.

"Sherlock" season 4 will air sometime in early 2017.
