'Sherlock' season 4 plot rumors: Lestrade attracted to Molly

Rupert Graves as Detective LestradeBBC

"Sherlock" season 4 is still a long ways off as the studios have yet to begin filming this coming Spring. However, while speaking with Collider, Rupert Graves was able to give a little insight regarding the potential future of his character in the upcoming season, particularly in relation to Molly Hooper (Louise Brealey).

Graves portrays Detective Lestrade in the series and the character has been shown as one of the only people who understand Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and his unique capabilities to solve crimes. Graves teased, however, that the next season may hold Lestrade beyond criminal investigations.

"I think definitely Lestrade has got the hots for Molly," the actor stated. "So maybe they'll develop that. We don't know what happens until we see the scripts, and that could literally be a couple of weeks before you film."

While it may be interesting to see Lestrade and Molly get together, particularly after it has been established that Molly has a big crush on Sherlock since season 1, it is also important to note the second half of Graves's statement. Despite the fact that Lestrade might have feelings for Molly, no script has yet been given to the actors as of the time being.

This means there is still the possibility that this potential plot line might not ever develop or be shown in the series.

There are reasons for this to occur, however. The series has showcased that the only woman Sherlock ever truly cared for was Irene Adler (Lara Pulver) and after failing to notice Molly's advances, it is possible the latter may look elsewhere for a romantic connection. With Lestrade constantly being involved, there is the chance they may get together.

"Sherlock" season 4 is set to begin production this Spring and while no specific release date has yet been announced the season is expected to release late this year or in early 2017.
