It looks like "Sherlock" season 4 is ready to end the mysteries established on the show. Executive producer, writer, and director Mark Gatiss teased that the next season will shed some light on some of the show's biggest secrets.

"There are things that come to fruition in this series which we've been planning for years," Gatiss, who also plays the role of Mycroft Holmes, told the attendees of Victoria & Albert Museum via Radio Times.

This means that "Sherlock" season 4 will tie loose ends. The nature of the show's next run appears to have lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch to feel like it will mark the end of the series.

The actor confessed that he already sees "Sherlock" ending next season. He revealed in an interview with GQ UK that season 4 feels like "the end of an era."

"It goes to a place where it will be pretty hard to follow on immediately," the "Doctor Strange" actor explained, adding that it feels "very complete."

While "Sherlock" season 4 could be the end, it should give the show a proper ending and provide fans answers to the lingering questions they had over the course series.

Cumberbatch feels for fans about the show seeing its conclusion, admitting that "the idea of never playing [Sherlock] again is really galling."

Fans can recall how the actor's popularity got in the way of making "Sherlock" season 4 happen. His schedule was so packed that he had no time to slip back into Sherlock's signature curly locks and black coat.

However, his commitment to the show is unwavering, much like that of the fans, which is the reason they are rallying for the "Sherlock" season 4 premiere even though they have to wait three years for it.

At the moment, nothing is certain about the show's standing. The show is yet to be renewed for another season either. Cumberbatch appears to be willing to still play the character.

"Sherlock" season 4 is scheduled to premiere in January 2017 on BBC.
