Although Benedict Cumberbatch can be seen almost everywhere these days, the "Sherlock" star said that he will not leave his fan-favorite detective character anytime soon. The British actor said that he has no plans of leaving the popular BBC detective series as long as the show continues to create stellar quality episodes. 

"If we keep the quality up," Cumberbatch stated. "I can't imagine that I will ever get tired of being Sherlock. I'd love to play him as an old man." 

At this point, It might still be too early for the star to say that he will continue portraying the role of the iconic literary detective, but fans of the show are really hoping that the series will last for a long time. 

At the moment, the 38-year-old multi-awarded actor is busy promoting his latest film "The Imitation Game" together with Keira Knightley. The film hit the big screen in late November. 

Meanwhile, fans still have to wait a little longer before Sherlock Holmes and his trusted friend Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) returns to the small screen, since the show's series 4 is said to be released in 2016. However, a Christmas episode is scheduled to air in 2015 to keep fans excited for the new chapter of the show. 

"A special, plus a new series of three episodes -- it's a record-breaking run!" teased series creator Steven Moffat in a statement when he was announcing the production of Sherlock Series 4. "Of course, it's far too early to say what's coming, but we're reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you'd expect." 

"Sherlock" viewers are now eagerly waiting to see what is next for Holmes and Watson, and to find out if the villain Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott) is really alive after he was seen in the last few seconds of series 3's finale. 

Until the season 4 premieres sometime in 2016, fans can just catch up with the first three seasons of "Sherlock" on Netflix.
