The much-delayed movie "Six Billion Dollar Man" starring Mark Wahlberg has now been given an official release date courtesy of Warner Bros.

The film, which was originally developed by the The Weinstein Company, has experienced many filming delays throughout 2017, mainly because of the controversial Harvey Weinstein. Late last year, The Weinstein Company decided to sell the movie to Warner Bros. -- which enabled the movie to get an official release date of summer 2019.

Warner Bros. is now aiming to start filming this summer of 2018 in order to reach the intended film release.

Wahlberg will be top-billing the said film, while Damian Szifron, most notably known for his work in the Oscar-nominated "Wild Tales," will be writing the script for the upcoming title. Szifron will also be serving as the movie's helmer.

The "Six Billion Dollar Man" is based on the hit, sci-fi action TV series "Six Million Dollar Man," which starred Lee Majors. The movie is about a former astronaut named Colonel Austin -- who suffered a fatal accident. However, specialists and scientists remodeled him into a superhuman, implanting bionic parts into his body. After that, he became a secret operative working under the government.

The TV series ran a total of five seasons between 1973 and 1978 and is based on the sci fi, thriller novel "Cyborg" authored by Martin Caidin.

According to reports, the movie will make a theatrical release early summer of 2019 on May 31.

Initially, the "Six Billion Dollar Man" was set for a release in 2017; however, The Weinstein Company experienced many delays in casting and production. In late 2017, it decided to sell the movie to Warner Bros. -- which was then scheduled for a movie outing in summer 2019.

In other news, Warner Bros. also announced other films set to be released in the same year as the "Six Billion Dollar Man," which includes "The Sun Is Also a Star" to be released on May 17 and "The Kitchen" to be released on Sept. 20.
